From Former administrator of DonnieCam Amsterdam:

In the year 2005, I placed an IP-camera behind Don's window with views on the Looiergracht and Prinsengracht, just for the fun of it, but also because Don's son lived abroad at the time and with this cam he could see what the weather was at his old man's place. After some time we installed a better (security) camera and placed it outside, in a special housing, made from pieces of scrap. Don provided the location and the internet connection, while I took care of the getting it all to work. Meanwhile, people had discovered the DonnieCam and mostly thanks to sites like travelingthroughthelens.com, the visitor counter started turning faster and faster. Great! People all over the world liked the DonnieCam and we liked that idea. Last summer, Don's calble modem/router had technical issues and after the ill advice from a noob at the cable company's first line help desk, Don closed me out from administering the equipment remotely, without any further explanation why he did. This meant that I couldn't configure a replacement for the faulty cable modem/router and get it to work with the camera. The end of the DonnieCam? I haven't heard from Don since he closed me out and I don't believe it will return. Sorry, just as much as some of you are.

From nico brussels:

Don, if you read this one day ... THANKS... THANKS... THANKS for the years of fun and happiness you gave us with your cam. And... if any hope is allowed, then I hope that you will turn it on again there or somewhere else. But whatever will be... the main message is: thanks for all these years. It was free, it was your gift to us. I owe you a lot. :)

From Brian:

Donniecam is really missed! If anyone reading this that has anything to do with Donniecam please bring it back! So many people got so much pleasure watching the seasons unfold including watching the ice skating on the canal.
